Lego, Cakes and Community: Volunteering at Incredible Kids

Incredible Kids began with almost nothing—no venue, no funding, no equipment. Just a small church, a few toys, a couple of tea bags, and a whole lot of hope from a group of determined parents. That very first session was full of joy and community spirit—and it’s that same energy that still powers us today.

Now, over a decade later, we support more than 1,500 families in Bristol through our inclusive play sessions—and volunteers are still at the heart of everything we do.

What Do Volunteers Do?

You might help run creative crafts, set up sensory play trays, or support a young person building Lego. You could be chatting to a child on the trampoline, handing out toast, or simply sitting alongside a family who needs a moment to breathe.

One of the most important things a volunteer can do is just be present. Sometimes, your presence helps a parent relax for the first time all week. Sometimes, it helps a child feel safe enough to play.

And when the fun is over? Everyone lends a hand to tidy up.

Why Your Help Matters

Many families wouldn’t be able to attend without the support of volunteers. For parents managing multiple needs, knowing there’s someone kind nearby can make all the difference.

Volunteers have also helped us go beyond play—designing food donation projects, packing gifts, even helping with fundraising. We couldn’t do it without you.

Training & Support

No experience? No problem. We provide online and in-person inductions, along with free safeguarding and food hygiene training. Whether you love chatting with kids, baking cakes, or doing quiet behind-the-scenes work, we’ll help you find a role that fits.

Real Stories, Real Impact

Eve
“I started volunteering because I loved being able to help families and their children. The most memorable part? That feeling of pride—knowing I was helping children feel safe and parents feel supported. We all cared for each other.”

Margreth
“I was welcomed with open arms. I made friends, gained confidence, and got a better understanding of the diversity of challenges families face. The best part was helping a child join in play for the first time—it stayed with me.”

Amber
Amber came to us as the sibling of a disabled child and eventually became one of our youngest playworkers.
“At home, there wasn’t always time for me, but at Incredible Kids, I felt seen. I wanted to give that same feeling to other children.”

Who Can Volunteer?

If you’ve got spare time and a kind heart, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re a student, a parent, retired, or building your CV, volunteering with us is flexible, supported, and meaningful.

We’re Currently Looking For…

Playworkers and kitchen helpers at:

  • Filton – Tuesdays & Wednesdays after school

  • Lockleaze (The Vench) – Saturday sessions

Even one session a month makes a big difference. Summer volunteers welcome too!

What Families Say
